Eligibility:
- Honors students who have NOT done SEE-Math previously who will be
entering grades 6, 7 or 8 in fall 2026.
Maplesoft provided each student a free copy of the
Maple Computer Algebra System
for two months surrounding the dates of SEE-Math.
After that there is a discount price to purchase Maple.

Title: Counting Diagonals
Abstract:
Draw a 4x4 grid of squares. There are two types of diagonals in each small square.
Two diagonals (in the same or different small squares) are considered bad if they touch.
What is the largest number of good diagonals that can be drawn, i.e. without touching?
Bio:
Phil is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at
Texas A&M University, where he has taught for over 40 years. Phil is a
co-founder of SEE-Math, a co-founder of the Texas A&M Math Circle and a
co-founder of the annual Math & Statistics Fair. He is also the author of
the online Calculus book:
MY Math Apps Calculus.
